MGP holds California security license number PPO121593. Every officer assigned in California meets the training and registration requirements that apply there before starting a post.

Security Officer Requirements in California

  • California security guards must hold a Security Guard Registration, known as a guard card, from the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS). Power to arrest training must be completed before the registration is issued. Source
  • BSIS requires 32 hours of security officer skills training within the first six months of registration and 8 hours of continuing training every year (BSIS fact sheet revised January 2022). Source
  • Armed guards need a BSIS Exposed Firearm Permit. The permit is valid for two years, and renewal requires four range qualifications during the two year term. Source
