Armed Security Guard Services
Armed officers for high-value retail, executive protection support and high-risk sites, assigned after a review of the site’s risk, lease and insurance requirements.
When Armed Officers May Be Appropriate
- Stores with very high-value inventory, such as fine jewelry and watches
- Locations with a history of armed robbery or violent incidents
- Cash handling and high-value deliveries
- Sites where a landlord, insurer or corporate policy requires it
Armed coverage is a serious step. It requires additional state licensing and firearms training, stronger supervision and insurance that covers armed services, and it changes how a space feels to visitors. Armed posts are assigned only after a review of the site’s risk, lease and insurance requirements.
Who Staffs Armed Posts
Tier III officers are retired law enforcement officers with 20 or more years of sworn service. They hold an armed license, complete Tier II training and qualify with their firearm every year. They are assigned to executive protection support and high-value asset protection. Tier IV off-duty officers cover critical incident response and dignitary and VIP protection where the local agency permits. See the Officer Classification Program and Off-Duty Police Officer Services.
Licensing
Armed officers must meet additional state requirements, which vary widely. Examples include a BSIS exposed firearm permit in California, a Class G license in Florida, a Level III commission in Texas and a Firearm Control Card in Illinois. Each location page lists the local requirements, and MGP verifies every armed officer’s license and qualification before assignment.
A Middle Path
Some clients use unarmed officers during regular hours and add armed coverage for high-risk periods, such as holiday weekends, product launches or after a nearby incident. See Unarmed Security Guard Services and Armed vs. Unarmed Security Officers for Retail.
