Warehouse and Distribution Center Security

Officers for warehouses and distribution centers covering access control, dock oversight, perimeter coverage and incident documentation.

Security for Warehouses and Distribution Centers

Warehouse security puts trained officers at the points where people, vehicles and goods enter and leave a facility. MGP staffs distribution centers that support retail operations, as well as other warehouse sites. Buyers are usually facility managers, distribution leaders and asset protection teams that need steady coverage across every shift, including overnight.

Where Coverage Applies

  • Main entrances and visitor areas
  • Shipping and receiving docks
  • Yards, parking areas and the building perimeter
  • Interior areas where inventory is staged or stored
  • Day, evening and overnight shifts

What Officers Do on a Normal Shift

  • Control access at entrances and check in visitors and drivers
  • Oversee dock activity and report anything outside the posted procedure
  • Patrol the perimeter and grounds on a set schedule, around the clock where required
  • Observe shipment and inventory movements as the Post Orders direct and report irregularities
  • Respond to alarms, injuries and other incidents, and escalate early
  • Document each incident on scene

Officers observe and report. Their role is presence, access and documentation.

How Post Orders Are Set Up

Post Orders are written for each location around its layout, hours and risk. For a warehouse, that means the doors and gates in use, the dock schedule, the patrol route, who may enter each area and the client contacts for escalation. Officers review the Post Orders and complete assignment-specific training before taking post, and they refresh them each quarter.

Supervision, Reporting and Escalation

Supervision runs the same way on the overnight shift as it does during the day.

  • The Operations Desk answers 24/7/365, and calls reach a live person in English or Spanish.
  • Every shift starts with a GPS-confirmed clock-in.
  • Incidents are documented on scene, time-stamped and GPS-verified, with photographs.
  • Supervisors make unannounced site visits to check presentation and adherence to Post Orders.
  • Coverage and incidents are reviewed with the client in a Monthly Operational Review and a Quarterly Business Review.

Officer Classification

MGP staffs posts by tier under the Officer Classification Program. Most warehouse posts fit Tier I, since access control, visitor screening, patrol and site security are its primary assignments. Tier II officers can be assigned where the client wants more experience on a post. Armed posts are filled only with Tier III retired law enforcement officers or Tier IV off-duty officers where permitted. Tier assignments for each location are confirmed in the Statement of Work.

Limitations and Dependencies

  • Officers summon law enforcement rather than intervene physically, except where both the law and the Post Orders for that assignment authorize otherwise.
  • This is a staffed officer service. It does not include cargo screening, investigations or the installation or integration of security technology.
  • Coverage depends on the client sharing its access rules and dock procedures and keeping them current.
  • Licensing and training requirements vary by jurisdiction and are maintained accordingly.
  • Tier IV availability varies by jurisdiction, since some agencies do not permit off-duty work through a private firm.

Availability

MGP supports programs across the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, Ireland, continental Europe, Australia and New Zealand through its hybrid delivery model: MGP-employed officers where MGP is licensed, and vetted, locally licensed partners elsewhere, with local supervision in every market. All programs are held to the same screening, training, insurance and reporting standards. See Service Areas for current markets.
