MGP holds Florida security license number B1300235. Every officer assigned in Florida meets the training and registration requirements that apply there before starting a post.

Security Officer Requirements in Florida

  • Florida security licenses are issued by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Licensing. A Class D Security Officer License requires 40 hours of training at a licensed school or training facility. Source
  • Armed security officers also need a Class G Statewide Firearm License, which requires 28 additional hours of range and classroom training from a licensed Class K Firearms Instructor, plus 4 hours of additional training every year. Source

Fire Watch Rules in Florida

  • Florida’s statewide fire code is the Florida Fire Prevention Code, adopted by the State Fire Marshal. The 8th Edition took effect December 31, 2023, and the 9th Edition is scheduled to take effect December 31, 2026. Source
  • Under NFPA 1 as applied in Florida, a fire watch is required when a fire sprinkler or fire alarm system is out of service for more than 4 hours in a 24 hour period, and fire watch personnel are subject to the authority having jurisdiction at all times. Source
