Security Officer Requirements in Indiana

  • Indiana licenses security guard agencies rather than individual guards. Any business that provides guards for pay, or advertises that service, must hold an agency license. Source
  • A licensed agency may employ unlicensed guards and is responsible for their conduct on the job. It must keep a recent photo and a full set of fingerprints for each employee and provide a roster to the Board on request. Source
  • The agency’s qualifier must be at least 21 and have two years of qualifying security or investigative experience, or a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field, and pass a fingerprint-based background check. Source
  • Agencies must carry at least $100,000 in general liability coverage that includes false arrest, malicious prosecution and wrongful entry, and the license is suspended if coverage lapses. Source
  • Agency licenses expire on October 1 every fourth year, for example 2027. Source
