Security Considerations in Lexington
The Keeneland spring and fall race meets and the major horse sales bring buyers, owners and visitors to Lexington from around the world. Hotels, restaurants, boutiques and private event hosts need additional, well-presented officers during those weeks, along with careful planning for parking, guest arrival and after-hours coverage. Farm tours and private dinners may also call for guest check-in.
University of Kentucky basketball and football games affect the whole city. Downtown and campus-area businesses see heavy crowds on game days and after big wins, and need officers who manage entries, protect storefronts and work with property managers when streets fill. Move-in week and graduation bring similar planning needs. Rival games draw the largest crowds.
Retail along Nicholasville Road combines an enclosed mall with a newer open-air center, while Hamburg is spread across large parking fields. Clients need floor coverage inside, visible patrol outside and consistent reporting across sites. Winter weather can slow travel on the outer roads, so relief staffing should be planned close to each location.

Common Questions
Are armed officers available in Lexington?
Armed posts are available where the jurisdiction permits. They are staffed by retired law enforcement officers who hold the required armed licensing, and are assigned after a review of the site’s risk, lease and insurance requirements. For luxury boutiques, MGP generally recommends unarmed officers focused on deterrence and client service.
How is security guard coverage priced?
Rates depend on the officer classification, hours, schedule and site requirements. MGP provides a written rate schedule after reviewing your needs. Holiday, overnight and short-notice coverage is billed at a premium rate.
