Security Considerations in Cardiff
International rugby and football at the Principality Stadium transform the city centre, with very large crowds arriving within a short walk of St David’s and Queen Street. Retailers and hospitality clients need extra officers on match days and major concert dates, along with a clear plan for opening, managing capacity and closing around road closures. These events recur throughout the year and should be planned well ahead.
The arcades are narrow covered passages with independent shops, jewellers and cafés, many in listed buildings with several entrances. Officers here need to know the layout well, keep good contact with arcade managers and neighbouring tenants, and work discreetly. Bilingual signage and Welsh-speaking visitors are part of daily life, and officers who can greet customers in Welsh are appreciated.
Offices at Central Square and Cardiff Bay need front-of-house officers, visitor management and controlled access. Mermaid Quay and the waterfront see heavy summer trade and evening footfall. Wind and rain off the Bristol Channel are frequent, so external and car park posts need appropriate equipment, and clients with sites across South Wales need supervision that covers the M4 corridor.
