Switching Security Providers Across Multiple Locations: A Transition Checklist
A practical checklist for moving many stores or buildings to a new security provider, from location lists and licensing to the first two weeks and 90-day review.

Changing security providers across many stores or buildings is one of the riskiest moments in a security program. Posts can go uncovered, officers can arrive without site instructions and incident history can be lost. A structured transition avoids most of these problems. This checklist covers what to settle before, during and after the changeover.
Before the Changeover
- Build one location list with addresses, hours, number of posts and any armed or specialty requirements.
- Collect the current Post Orders, site contacts, alarm and access procedures and the last 12 months of incident reports.
- Confirm licensing for each jurisdiction, including state, city and any specialty certificates such as fire guard certificates.
- Check the outgoing contract for notice periods and any terms on hiring incumbent officers.
- Agree insurance certificates and additional insured requirements for every landlord.
Sequencing the Rollout
Most programs move in waves rather than all at once. Start with a small group of locations in one market, confirm that coverage, reporting and invoicing work as planned, then expand. Schedule start dates away from holiday peaks, store openings and major events.
The First Two Weeks
- Supervisors visit each site on the first day to brief officers and store managers.
- Post Orders are reviewed with each store and corrected where practice differs from the document.
- Clock-in, incident reporting and escalation contacts are tested at every location.
- A short daily call covers open issues until each wave is stable.
Measuring the Result
Agree the measures before the transition starts: shifts filled on time, supervisor visits completed, incident reports submitted within the agreed window and invoice accuracy. Review them together at 30, 60 and 90 days.
Planning a Multi-Site Transition
MGP runs multi-site programs through the MGP Hybrid Delivery Model, with one set of Post Orders, one reporting format and local supervision in every market. See Multi-Site Security Programs and How We Operate, or call 833-832-6647.
