Security Officer Requirements in Massachusetts

  • In Massachusetts, watch, guard or patrol agencies are licensed by the Colonel of the State Police under M.G.L. c. 147, s. 25. Licenses run for one year and may be renewed annually. Source
  • Massachusetts will not grant a watch, guard or patrol agency license to anyone convicted of a felony, and agency names may not include the words police or fire. Source
  • The Massachusetts State Police Certification Unit handles licensing for private detectives and watch, guard or patrol agencies, and employees of licensed agencies must submit an electronic affidavit form. Source
