Security Officer Requirements in Illinois

  • Illinois security credentials are issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), including the Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) and the Firearm Control Card (FCC). Source
  • Illinois requires 20 hours of basic training. Armed duty also requires a 28 hour firearm training course, made up of 20 classroom hours and 8 hours of firing range experience (68 Ill. Adm. Code 1240.510). Source
  • Firearm Control Card holders must complete 8 hours of refresher training each calendar year, including live fire qualification with a minimum score of 70%. Source
