Licensed in New Jersey

MGP holds New Jersey security license number 1707. Every officer assigned in New Jersey meets the training and registration requirements that apply there before starting a post.

Security Officer Requirements in New Jersey

  • New Jersey security officers must be certified under the Security Officer Registration Act (SORA). The New Jersey State Police Private Detective Unit is the regulator for the private security industry in the state. Source
  • SORA applicants must complete an approved 24 hour course of classroom instruction taught by a certified security officer instructor (N.J.A.C. 13:55A-4.1). Source
  • A SORA certification is valid for two years. Renewal requires an 8 hour refresher course from a certified Security Officer Instructor. Source
  • Armed security officers need an armed SORA certification, renewed every year with an 8 hour block of instruction. The armed certification does not by itself allow carrying a firearm; a separate New Jersey Permit to Carry a Handgun is also required. Source
