Security for Distribution Centers, Warehouses and Logistics Yards
MGP protects the flow of goods from the gate to the dock door, with officers briefed on yard procedures, trailer and seal controls, and the internal theft risks that drive shrink in high-volume facilities.
Where Loss Happens in a Distribution Operation
Product that leaves a distribution center without authorization rarely goes over a fence. It leaves through a dock door on the wrong trailer, in a mislabeled carton, through an employee exit, or on a vehicle that was never checked against a bill of lading. Cargo theft, fictitious pickups and collusion between internal staff and drivers are recurring patterns across the industry.
MGP builds coverage around those control points rather than around a guard booth. Post orders are written for the specific facility, its shift pattern and its shipping and receiving process, so officers know what to verify and when to escalate.
Gate, Yard and Dock Controls
Officers manage inbound and outbound vehicle traffic, verify driver identity and carrier credentials against scheduled appointments, and record tractor, trailer and seal numbers at entry and exit. Seal inspections follow the view, verify, tug and twist method described in U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s CTPAT guidance, and officers are briefed on any ISO 17712 high-security seals the facility uses.
- Gatehouse operation, visitor and driver check-in, and gate logs
- Trailer and seal number verification against shipping documents
- Scheduled and randomized yard checks for unsecured or unaccounted trailers
- Dock door and perimeter door checks during and after operating hours
- Escalation of discrepancies to the client’s shipping, receiving or loss prevention lead
Internal Theft and Employee Exit Screening
Where the client’s policy calls for it, MGP officers conduct employee exit screening, locker area and break room patrols, and checks of high-value cages and returns areas. Screening follows the client’s written procedure and is applied the same way to every covered employee, which protects the product and the integrity of the process.
Officers document observations objectively and route concerns to the client’s asset protection or human resources team. MGP does not conduct investigations or interviews unless that scope is agreed in writing.
Safety in an Active Facility
Distribution centers are industrial environments. Officers are briefed on site traffic patterns, pedestrian walkways and powered industrial truck zones, which OSHA regulates under 29 CFR 1910.178, and wear high-visibility apparel meeting ANSI/ISEA 107 where the site requires it. Patrol routes are set so officers observe dock and yard activity without creating new hazards.
Officers also report safety conditions on every patrol, including blocked fire exits, damaged dock plates, lighting outages and spills, so facility managers receive a record they can act on.
Coverage That Scales With Volume
Peak season, new building openings and inventory counts change staffing needs quickly. Through the MGP Hybrid Operating Model in the US, Canada and the UK, MGP combines its own officers with vetted partners to add coverage under the same post orders and reporting. Officers are assigned from the Tier I to Tier IV classifications based on the risk at each post.
Every shift is recorded in PostControl, MGP’s reporting and post management technology. Digital post orders keep procedures consistent across shifts, and incident and shift reports give operations and loss prevention leaders a documented history of gate activity, discrepancies and patrol findings across one or many facilities.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can MGP officers verify trailer seals and shipping documents?
Yes. Officers record tractor, trailer and seal numbers, compare them with the documents the client provides, and escalate any mismatch to the designated client contact before the vehicle is released, according to the site’s post orders.
Do your officers perform employee exit screening?
Where the client has a written screening policy, MGP officers apply it to every employee the policy covers and document the results. MGP reviews the procedure with the client before the program starts.
Can you support a facility during peak season only?
Yes. MGP can provide seasonal or temporary coverage and adjust staffing as volume changes, using its own officers and vetted partners under the MGP Hybrid Operating Model.
How do we see what happened on each shift?
Officers file shift reports and incident reports in PostControl. Reports include times, locations and supporting detail, so managers can review gate activity and patrol findings without waiting for a phone call.
Can MGP work with our existing monitoring or GSOC?
Yes. MGP integrates its officers with the client’s GSOC or a monitoring partner’s operations center. The post orders define how officers respond on site when an alarm or camera event is reported.
