Security for Banks, Wealth Managers and Financial Institutions

MGP provides armed and unarmed officers, off-duty police and executive protection support for bank branches, private banking and wealth management offices, and financial headquarters.

Supporting Your Institution’s Security Program

Under the Bank Protection Act and its implementing regulations, federally insured banks and savings associations designate a security officer and maintain a written security program covering matters such as opening and closing procedures, robbery and burglary deterrence and employee training. MGP officers operate inside that program. They do not replace the institution’s security officer or its policies; they carry them out at each location.

Post orders are written from the institution’s existing procedures, so branch staff, corporate security and MGP officers follow the same rules for access, alarms, robbery response and escalation.

Branch and Retail Banking Coverage

Branch coverage is set location by location based on robbery history, local crime data, hours and layout. Typical duties include:

  • Visible deterrence at the entrance and lobby during business hours
  • Support for opening and closing procedures, including exterior checks before staff entry
  • ATM vestibule and parking area patrols
  • Watching for surveillance and follow-home activity aimed at customers who withdraw cash
  • De-escalation of customer disputes and removal of disruptive individuals at management’s direction
  • Post-robbery scene protection, witness separation and coordination with law enforcement

Corporate Headquarters and Wealth Management Offices

Headquarters and wealth management offices carry different risks: unauthorized access, tailgating, disgruntled clients or former employees, protest activity and threats against executives. MGP staffs lobby and reception posts, visitor management, badge and turnstile control, mailroom and receiving screening, and patrols of floors and amenity spaces.

Private banking and family office clients often expect a concierge standard at the front desk. MGP officers can staff those posts in business attire, greet clients by appointment and keep the security function discreet.

Armed, Unarmed and Off-Duty Police Options

Each location can be staffed at the level its risk warrants. Reception, lobby and access control posts are usually covered by Tier I and Tier II officers, Tier III retired law enforcement officers are often assigned to higher-risk branches and supervisory roles, and Tier IV off-duty law enforcement officers are available where department rules permit and the institution wants a sworn officer on site.

Armed coverage is provided only where state law, MGP licensing and the client’s policy all allow it, and only by officers who hold the required armed credentials and have completed the applicable firearms qualification. Executive protection support is available for board and shareholder meetings, travel and periods of credible threat.

Vendor Due Diligence and Confidentiality

Banks typically manage security providers under third-party risk management programs consistent with the 2023 Interagency Guidance on Third-Party Relationships issued by the Federal Reserve, FDIC and OCC. MGP supports onboarding with license information, insurance certificates, screening procedures, training records and policies, and responds to periodic vendor reviews.

Officers work near customer information, cash and secured areas. Screening is aligned to the institution’s requirements, confidentiality obligations are covered in post orders and training, and officers are instructed not to access, photograph or discuss customer information.

Documentation for Audit and Incident Review

With digital post orders in PostControl, every branch works from the same current procedure. Shift and incident reports give corporate security a consistent, time-stamped record across locations for audits, robbery reports, insurance claims and litigation.

For institutions with a GSOC or a monitoring partner’s operations center, MGP ties alarm escalation and incident notification into that center so field officers and the monitoring team act on the same information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do your officers replace the bank’s designated security officer?

No. The institution’s designated security officer remains responsible for the security program. MGP officers carry out the program’s procedures at each location and report to corporate security.

Can MGP provide armed officers at bank branches?

Yes, where state law, MGP licensing and the institution’s policy permit. Armed posts are staffed only by officers holding the armed credentials and firearms qualification required in that state.

Do you provide security for multi-branch networks?

Yes. MGP runs multi-site programs with consistent post orders and reporting across branches, using its Hybrid Operating Model in the United States, Canada and the UK.

Do you provide cash-in-transit or armored car services?

No. MGP provides officers and executive protection support. Cash transport is handled by licensed armored carriers, and MGP officers can coordinate with them at the branch.

What documents can you provide for our vendor review?

MGP provides license information, insurance certificates, screening and training procedures, relevant policies and sample reports to support onboarding and periodic third-party risk reviews.
